American government says driver error might have played a role in Toyota safety issues

According to a Wall Street Journal report, early findings by the United States Department of Transportation are indicating driver error as the cause of some sudden-acceleration accidents related to Toyota automobiles. The Journal report said, “The early results suggest that some drivers who said their Toyota’s and Lexus’s surged out of control were mistakenly flooring the accelerator when they intended to jam on the brakes”.  Continue Reading

Loyal Toyota consumers needn’t fear, their Champaign Toyota dealer won’t be turning into a vacant lot any time soon.  Toyota Motor Corp has shown skeptics that the world’s largest automaker isn’t going down without a fight as they posted a profit of $1.2 billion for the quarter after a year of high-profile recalls spurred on by the PR nightmare of sudden acceleration cases and several probes by the US Auto Safety Regulators.  These setbacks could have severely crippled a lesser auto company, but Toyota has illustrated the benefit of consumer loyalty and the advantage of having a wide-ranging product line.
